Animated Movies

These are my favorite animated movies! Some of them I like more than others, but I would definitely re-watch all of them! (I have re-watched some multiple times already <3)

Even though these movies are kid-friendly, I would advise you to check the 'Parents Guide’ section of IMDB under each movie, to see if the film is right for your family.

I do make a small commission from the DVDs on this page, at no additional cost to you!

Tangled

Rapunzel’s has a dream - to see the ‘lights’ for her birthday! There’s only one problem. Mother Gothel keeps her sheltered in her tower, never being able to leave. It seems Rapunzel’s chances of seeing the lights are shattered, until Flynn Ryder, a notorious thief, runs into Rapunzel’s tower for shelter. Join them on a tale of adventure, comedy, and love.

This movie is in my top 5 movies I’ve EVER watched. I’ve seen it about eight times, and it gets better each time! I honestly love everything about Tangled - the animation, the plot, the love story, the action, and the comedy.

The Princess and the Frog

Tiana is a waitress with a dream to own her own restaurant, but that plan is put on hold when she reluctantly kisses a frog to turn him human…and accidentally turns HERSELF into a frog. Join Tiana and the frog prince as they try to un-frog themselves in the mystical bayous of Louisiana.

This is such a sweet story! It had my whole family laughing out loud, especially when the creatures of the bayou were in the scenes.

(The villain in the movie uses voodoo, so his character and the spirits may be frightening for young children.)

The Aristocats

Wealthy aristocrat Madame has left her fortune to her beloved cats, and her butler…practically nothing. Rightly so, he’s fuming, but the way he goes about his anger is horrible. He cat-naps the kitties and drops them by a river far away from town, so they can’t inherit the fortune.

The cats are scared and confused until a smooth-talking alley cat, O’Malley, comes by and joins them on their way back to Madame. Will they get home?

This is such a classic Disney movie, and the animation is absolutely beautiful - all hand-drawn!

Abominable

When Yi climbed up to her terrace roof to play her violin, she never dreamed of finding a yeti. But there he is. Everest. A yeti. Impossible. It turns out that he had run away from scientists trying to study him, ended up on Yi’s roof, and wants to go home. What ensues is an epic adventure full of action, family, adventure, friendship, and hope.

I remember going to the theater to see this when it came out, and I loved it so much! (I watched it two more times at home after that lol) The animation and scenery throughout the while movie is STUNNING!

Peter Pan

Wendy and her brothers hear stories about Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. They all want to meet him, but their father thinks that notion is silly… but then one night, Peter Pan appears to whisk the kids away to Neverland. There, Wendy and her brothers go on adventures they’ve only dreamt of…

This one is such a fun and whimsy classic! The ‘vintage’ animation is so pretty, especially the lighting on the lagoon.

The Lost Boys are my favorite characters - their antics are hilarious to watch as they tumble over reach other lol.

Moana

Maui is a demi-god. He makes this abundantly clear. He is THE demi-god and he loves putting spells and curses on islands for fun.

Moana lives on one of these islands that one of Maui’s curses has reached and she’s going to set things right. She answers the ocean’s call and goes to find Maui so he can take off the curse. Join her on an epic quest in this musical!

The songs in Moana are some of my favorite Disney songs! “You’re Welcome,” and “How Far I’ll Go” are my favorites.

How to Train Your Dragon

“This is Berk. It’s twelve days north of Hopeless, and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death.” *cue dragon flames

On Berk, lives Vikings, and for as long as they’ve known, they’ve hunted dragons before the dragons hunt them. But Hiccup Haddock, a very un-Viking-like Viking, wants to change that after befriending a deadly Night Fury. He thinks that dragons and Vikings can live in harmony, but can he convince his father, the chief, and the village of this?

THIS MOVIE. I have watched this over and over again and it never gets old. It’s one of my favorite movies EVER and I hope you get a chance to watch and enjoy it as much as I do!

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Hiccup and his friends on Berk have been putting together a map of the archipelago and surrounding islands, by flying on their dragons and mapping what they see. One day they find something strangely amazing…an ice cave full of wild dragons and a mysterious dragon rider. They soon find themselves whisked into a war to keep the peace among Vikings and dragons…

THE P L O T TWISTS?! Insane. I love how the animation gets better with each movie in the trilogy. This series honestly has such a special place in my heart <3

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Ever since Hiccup found Toothless, he thought that Toothless was the only surviving Night Fury. But when he realizes this isn’t true, everything the Vikings have ever known is changed. Hiccup must seek out the Hidden World, a dragon paradise, to protect it before the evil Grimmel finds it first.

Get your tissues ready because if you’re as attached to these characters as I am, this movie is going to be a tear-jerker. The ending always has my eyes watering, even though I know exactly what’s going to happen, lol. This is honestly the perfect ending to the perfect trilogy.

SING

All Buster Moon wants is to save his theater and he’s thought of the perfect way how to…a singing competition. All of the best (and some of the worst) performers in the city come to try out and it changes their lives. Forever.

I remember going to the theater to see this with my mom when it came out - and I LOVED it! The animation is beautiful and all of the characters’ backstories are so heartfelt.

SING 2

Buster Moon and the main characters of SING 1 are back and better than ever. They’ve got a new show in the entertainment capital of the world and only three weeks to make it happen. Join them as they rock the world and try to persuade the reclusive rock star, Clay Calloway, to preform in their show…

Sometimes sequels fall flat compared to the first movie, but this one was just as good as SING! The new characters are so fun and the comedic timing is everything, lol. I love how Meena’s character was developed more in this movie <3

Spies in Disguise

Lance Sterling is the best spy in the world. He always gets in, gets the goods, and gets out. That is, until Walter Beckett, a young scientist at the spy agency, equips Lance’s suit with non-lethal weapons. Lance fires him, one thing leads to another, and…Lance is turned into a pigeon. Join Lance and Walter in this action-packed comedy filled with hope, love, friendship, and…feathers.

I have seen this movie SO many times - I have some parts memorized, lol. This is another movie I went to see in the theater and LOVED. I still re-watch it every once in a while!

Beauty and the Beast

When Belle’s father set off to show his latest invention at a fair, the last thing he was thinking about was getting lost in the woods and imprisoned by a hideous Beast. Belle then finds her way to him and ultimately trades her freedom for his. The Beast terrifies Belle at first but she slowly finds herself growing attached to the creature and the feeling might be…mutual…

This truly is a tale as old as time. The beautiful storytelling and songs in this classic version are so pretty. My favorite song is “Gaston” - I love the animation in that scene!

Aladdin

Aladdin stumbled upon a cave containing countless treasures and…one sarcastic genie. It wasn’t what he was expecting but the genie could be of some help to him… The genie grants Aladdin three wishes and Aladdin uses them to win the heart of Princess Jasmine, all while battling the evil Jafar, who wants the genie for himself.

Aladdin is honestly such a classic Disney movie and one of the best animated ones, in my opinion. The plot and subplots are engaging for any age - I watched this for the first time when I was fourteen and loved it!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Quasimodo, a deformed bell-ringer in Notre Dame, lives life shut up in the bell tower, with no one but the gargoyles to keep him company. That all changes when a gypsy dancer, Esmerelda, comes to the cathedral for sanction. What ensues is a fiery chaos of hiding, sneaking, and bravery.

This is one of the darker Disney animations, so I would absolutely advise looking at the parent’s guide on IMDB to make a choice if this is right for your family. I watched this for the first time when I was fourteen and was fine with the violence, but some scenes would scare little ones.

Ratatouille

Remy (the rat) dreams of becoming a chef in Paris, France, but there’s one problem. He’s a rat. Other chefs (the humans) chase him out of any kitchen with a broom before he can show them his skill. That is, until he meets Alfredo Linguini, a novice in the kitchen. He and Remy cook up a plan to get Remy in the kitchen AND restore the name of the restaurant where Alfredo is working. Will it work?

If your kid (or you!) loves animals, then this is the perfect animation to watch! It’s so sweet to watch Alfredo and Remy’s antics and friendship throughout the movie <3

Hercules

Ever since he was a little boy, Hercules has felt that he hasn’t belonged with the people around him. He soon finds out that he is a god who has been stripped of his immortality. His father, Zeus, tells him that in order to regain his immortality, he must prove himself a true hero. Join him on his hilarious quest to become immortal!

Does this movie follow the Greek mythology? No, absolutely not. Is it fun and entertaining anyway? Yes, absolutely so. I love how Hades was villainous and obviously evil, but not too scary, like some other Disney villains.

Big Hero 6

After the tragedy, Hiro Hamada doesn’t know what to do with his life, until…Baymax, a white plushy healthcare companion, invented by Hiro’s brother inhabits his room. Baymax’s soul purpose is to protect Hiro but could he help other people, too? Hiro thinks so, and teams up with his brother’s friends to confront a villain threatening San Fransokyo.

I cried. Multiple times. Would I watch it again though? Yes. Yes I would. The storyline was absolutely stunning and I felt for each character the whole way through. Baymax is so adorable and the perfect loveable sidekick!

Mulan

When Mulan’s aging father gets drafted to the Chinese army, Mulan can’t, won’t stand by and let this happen. She instead disguises herself as a man and takes her father’s place in the army, along with a talking dragon companion, Mushu. Join her as she fights, rises up the ranks in the army, and…tries not to get caught.

This is one of my favorite Disney animations ever - how could you go wrong with Mushu?! He’s so funny! The plot and subplots are beautiful and super heartwarming.

Zootopia

Everyone knows that bunnies can’t be cops. Until Judy Hopps comes along to prove them all wrong. But how can she do that when her senior officer thinks she’s only capable of giving parking tickets? She thinks he’ll take her seriously if if she solves a missing person case. Judy teams up with con artist Nick Wilde to solve it - will they succeed? And what else will they uncover in the process?

Judy and Nick’s banter is priceless! The plot and how each character plays a part in the ending is so sweet. I would’ve never guessed who the villain was!
